Baby breastfeeding with big blue eyes

Breastfeeding may come natural to some, but for others it’s hard work.  If you’re concerned that things aren’t going as well as they could be, I’m here to help you!  I offer visits in the comfort and privacy of your home because this is typically where both mom and baby are more comfortable.

When to Reach Out for Help

  • If there are any concerns about baby’s weight gain

  • If you’re considering (or have decided to) supplement

  • If latching is difficult or painful

  • If you have sore nipples

  • If you’re experiencing unusual engorgement

  • If baby won’t latch

  • If baby is very fussy
  • If baby is sleeping too much or too little

  • If you’d like to develop a better routine

  • If you’re headed back to work

  • When baby is ready to start solids

  • When you’re ready to wean

  • Anytime your instincts are saying that something isn’t quite right
“My son, Max, had trouble latching so I pumped breast milk for him for approximately the first month. My thought at this time was 'maybe I can’t breastfeed him' so I decided I would just exclusively pump. Mandi knew that I really wanted to breastfeed as we had previously talked at length about how important it was to me. So, when she called to check in with me to see how it was going and found out I had essentially given up, she suggested I give it one more try. So I followed Mandi's advice. My son latched immediately and thus began our nursing relationship. I was fortunate enough to nurse Max until he was 10 months old.”Julie, first time mom in Ohio

First I'll find out how you're doing

  •  You can tell me how breastfeeding has been going and what concerns you’re having
  • I’ll ask you additional questions that can help me narrow down what the problem might be
  • We’ll assess a feeding together, paying close attention to your baby’s latch and how much milk he’s getting
  • We'll discuss what went well and what didn't

Then we'll make a plan together

We'll discuss options and decide together:

  • When and how to breastfeed
  • When, how, and what to supplement
  • When and how to pump
  • How to care for your breasts while they heal

At the end of our appointment, I'll provide you with a written Breastfeeding Care Plan that includes everything we discussed and provides clear written instructions including how and when to follow-up with me and any referrals that you may need.

Initial appointments last between 1.5 and 2.5 hours.  The investment for lactation support is $100.  Scholarships are offered based on financial need.

Not sure if you actually need an appointment?

I offer FREE phone consultations.  We can trouble-shoot over the phone and decide together if you need a face-to-face visit.

I'd like a free phone consultation

Commitment to Collaborative Care

With your consent, I'll be happy to send a written summary of our session and your Breastfeeding Care Plan to your and/or your baby's health care provider(s).

My Promise to You...

  • I promise I’ll support you.  Sometimes families worry that working with a lactation professional means that they’ll be pushed to breastfeed or judged if they decide not to.  Not at Misawa Birth & Baby!  No matter what you want, I’ll support your decisions.  From breastfeeding your toddler to choosing formula from the start and everything in between, it’s your body, your baby, your decision.
  • I promise I’ll help you meet your goals.  If there's. problem, I’ll help you figure out what it is, we’ll make a plan together, I’ll answer all your questions, and I’ll check in to make sure everything’s going well.  It’s like having a personal trainer for breastfeeding.
  • If the plan changes, I promise I’ll still support you.  If you decide that breastfeeding isn't right for your family anymore, I’ll help you make the switch in a way that’s gentle and safe.  This is a judgement-free zone!
